Benefits of EPAL Wooden Pallets

The use of EPAL pallets comes with a number of benefits. Any storage system can use it, but automated warehouses are where it shines the most. Any kind of forklift or handling machinery can handle it without any limitations. Also, because the dimensions (800 x 1,200 mm) are multiples of typical plastic boxes, grouping goods and items is made simpler.

The Euro-pallet size evolved from the need to standardize pallet use in order to maximize available space. As a result, the measurements of these pallets, known as EUR-pallet, EPAL-pallet, or European Pallet, were determined in a European-wide manner using the UNE-EN 13698-1 standard. The euro pallet with dimensions of 800 x 1,200 mm was chosen in accordance with the building specifications for these bases specified in this standard. A euro-pallet weighs approximately 25 kg and can withstand loads of up to 1.5 tonnes (and static loads, with non-moving pallets, of up to 4 tonnes).

As previously stated, the most commonly used plastic and cardboard boxes have dimensions that are multiples of 800 x 1,200 mm. Standardization has also resulted in more uniform spaces in lorries and shipping containers. Trailer-type trucks' platforms can accommodate pallets measuring 33,800 x 1,200 mm.

All EPAL pallets are marked with EPAL quality control staple, and if the pallet was repaired – with EPAL repair nail. EUR pallets belong to the pallet exchange system.
